- World Space Week was first observed in 1999. It is an international celebration of space and its impact on our lives and is meant to honor two seminal events in space exploration, the launching of the first satellite, Sputnik 1, on October 4, 1957 and on October 10, 1967, the Outer Space Treaty was signed. It is celebrated from October 4 to 10.
- World Habitat Day is observed every year on the first Monday of October throughout the world. It was officially designated by the United Nations and first celebrated in 1986. The purpose of the day is to reflect on the state of our cities and towns and the basic human right to adequate shelter. It also aims to remind the world of its collective responsibility for the habitat of future generations.

- Jharkhand has become the first state in the country to launch the ambitious Direct Benefit Transfer in Kerosene scheme. The scheme aims at eliminating pilferage and black-marketing and adulteration. Under the scheme, consumers pay the non-subsidized price of kerosene at the time of purchase. Subsequently, the amount of subsidy is directly transferred to the bank account of the beneficiary.
